Project Name: TSMC
Location: United States, Arizona
Client Type: Owner’s Representative
Services Provided: BIM & VDC Management
HCG was engaged to provide BIM consulting and BIM management oversight on behalf of a boutique, owners representative firm. Services were rendered for a Taiwanese General Contractor who is responsible for turn-key bulk and specialty gas systems.
HCG developed a BIM Execution Plan, project BIM schedule, and instituted efficient VDC tools and programs. HCG worked closely with TSMC construction directors, general contractor BIM directors, and multiple subcontractor entities to facilitate the advancement of BIM & VDC practices on this globally significant project.
Challenges that we overcame were highlighted by the cooperation and communication among our Taiwanese partners. Instituting BIM and VDC for the first time on a TSMC semiconductor FAB allowed us to focus on core competencies of BIM and VDC. We established definitions of LOD, BIM standards, consistent coordination, and accountability to construction technology. The General Contractor was successful in the scheduled delivery of their systems. RFIs, rework, and wasted costs were significantly reduced.
We also proudly directed the research, procurement, training, and development of a reality capture team utilizing the leading 3D laser scanner, RTC360 from Leica Geosystems. 3D scanning was used to capture site conditions and facilitate more efficient BIM coordination. The services of this team saved hundreds of hours of labor and millions of dollars of materials.
- Identified HPM areas had major inconsistencies in concrete pours
- Federated project model was found to be incorrect from the actual elevations of the Bulk supply gas storage area.
- Facility common steel racks were built/installed incorrectly in multiple locations.
